A museum of Cypriot wine is opened in the Erimi village. The president of the Cyprus was present on the museum opening. The Erimi village is situated on the old road Limassol-Paphos, at the intersection, which leads to Crasochoria. It is a group of villages where different sorts of wine are raised. Erimi village is also close to Curion, the Apollo's temple and to prehistoric settlement Sotir, where the ancient wine seeds were discovered. Colossi is placed in the same area. It is the spring of the famous Cypriot "Commendam (Kommandaria)", first manufactured by Hospitaller Honor knights.
The Cyprus Wine Museum gives an opportunity to journey across centuries and to become acquainted with the history of vinification. There are ancient vessels among the exhibits, which are borrowed from the Cyprus Museum, medieval vessels from the Pierdis Museum, a personal owner's collection and instruments of labor, used when raising wine. It is a unique and very clear presentation of wine raising, storing and consuming.
The visitors may follow all stages of vinification, starting with the wine planting, up to the process of realization, with the help of photos and video materials.
This Museum was introduced to the plan of agricultural tourism by Cyprus Tourism Organization and financed by Communication and Public Labor Ministry, as well as by local authorities. For sure, many new hotels and cyprus villas will arise now. Agro tourism will acquire a new status.
